Mitchell County Regional Health Center is a twenty-five bed Critical Access Hospital located in the community of Osage. In 1994, a partnership was formed to create a Physician Hospital Organization (PHO). This partnership includes Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mitchell County Regional Health Center and Clinics in Osage, Riceville, St. Ansgar and Stacyville.

The employees, medical providers, board members, volunteers, and leaders of Mitchell County Regional Health Center remain dedicated to its core values of respect, honesty, justice, confidentiality and compassion. Mitchell County Regional Health Center owns and operates its own ambulance service. This Paramedic Provisional Service responds to approximately 700 calls annually. In addition, emergency helicopter service is available from MayoOne from Rochester, Minnesota and Mercy AirLife in Mason City, Iowa.

Mitchell County Home Health Care/Public Health

 

Mitchell County Home Health Care/Public Health was established in 1969 with 20 home care aides, 2 nurses and 1 office staff. Located at 415 Pleasant Street, Suite 100 in Osage, Iowa, Mitchell County Home Health presently consists of 9 home care aides, 5 nurses and 3 office staff. With the Mitchell County Board of Health as its governing body, services are available to anyone residing in Mitchell County, with no age restrictions. Referrals can be made by doctors, hospitals, friends, neighbors, family, other public services agencies or self.

 

MCHHC is Medicare, Medicaid and Blue Cross Blue Shield certified and has contracts with a variety of additional insurance companies and service providers, such as Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy and the Elderbridge Area Agency on Aging. You can receive services even if you are not "homebound". There are a variety of service programs. Nursing services are developed with the client and their physician. Health promotion visits and care plans are developed between the client and the nurse.

 

Mitchell County Home Health Care/Public Health offers other programs in addition to home visits: Immunization Clinics, Senior Health Clinics, Community Health Assessment, Foot Care Clinics, Case Management for Elderly, Maternal Health, Active for Life (pedometer) program, Tobacco Use Prevention, Parenting Education, Sexual Abuse Prevention Education, Iowa Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention, Communicable Disease Assessment and Treatment such as TB and Flu Clinics, Pertussis follow up, Public Health Bio-Emergency planning for the county (includes planning and preparing for natural and terrorist emergency events), Hawk-i Insurance coordination (insurance program for underinsured children), Lead Screening for children, and Community Education. Programs and screening clinics such as blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes are also available.

 

Mitchell County Home Health Care/Public Health partners with other community entities to collaborate on activities and committees, such as local schools, hospital, senior centers, clinics, churches and the North Iowa Community Action Organization.
